Governor Ivey Announces Rebuild Alabama Infrastructure Plan

Port Authority Responds to Governor Ivey's Infrastructure Announcement

"The Alabama State Port Authority is extremely pleased to be included in Governor Ivey's Rebuild Alabama Infrastructure Plan and we appreciate the state leadership's support. Alabama's port channel needs critical improvements to ensure Alabama industries remain competitive and enjoy transportation cost efficiencies to reach global markets. Our port will fall behind competing ports, who are already modernizing their infrastructure, if our port is not deepened and widened. Our study shows that we can return $5 to Montgomery for every dollar invested. The Infrastructure Plan will help us modernize the shipping channel while the Port Authority continues to invest several hundred million in shore-side infrastructure to support Alabama businesses and jobs," said James K. Lyons, director and chief executive officer for the Alabama State Port Authority.
